For very urgent and/or extremely expensive shipments.
Imagine that a critical part is required at the customer’s overseas plant to keep it from shutting down. Airfreight can get it there quickly to avoid or reduce the downtime. Perhaps a customer has an unanticipated need of your product and their present supply will run out before the next ocean shipment gets there. Airfreight can bridge and fill that gap with a smaller but very valuable shipment of your goods. Yes, airfreight is expensive, but very much worth it if it creates a satisfied customer. Emergencies, tight schedules, last minute orders, and other unexpected events can often be solved by shipping via airfreight. High value goods are often well-suited for shipping on aircraft.
